The Mount Vernon Majors traveled to take on the Hayfield Hawks, and played one of the biggest games in Mount Vernon history.

The parking lot was filled as the Majors entered the Hawks stadium. This game was the Hawks homecoming game, so the crowd was even more massive. The Majors were coming to Hayfield on a 5-0 streak. The Majors were ready, and pumped up to get this game started.

As the game started, things started to get wild. Scotty Burns kicks the ball on kick off, and the outstanding Jordyn Reid ran faster than the flash, and tackled Hayfields returner on the two yard line. What a great tackle.

The Majors started to get a run on the Hawks. The mighty Majors scored first against the Hawks setting the score at 7-0. The Majors defense were shutting down the Hawks and, pulling their offense off the field as quickly as possible.

Once the Majors offense got on-to the field, they scored immediately, but the Hawks made a terrific play, and made the Majors kicker miss the field goal setting the score 12-0.

Once the Majors had the lead, the star quarter back, Timmy Heltzel, thought in his head, “We need to keep this up.” The Majors were playing really good against this great playoff team.

The Majors completed a 2pt conversion making the score 14-0. The Hawks kept pounding and the Majors defense couldn’t keep up, but the Majors still never gave up.

Even though the Majors were playing intense defense, the Hawks still showed they had more inside them, but the Majors offense had a lot more tricks up their sleeves.

The mighty Majors kept scoring, but so did the Hawks.

The Mount Vernon Majors played an outstanding game.

Coach Monty Fritts said after the game,

I believe this game would be a wake up call for the guys. We haven’t been put in late game situations like this one.”

— Coach Fritts

The players played their hearts out, and gave it their all. One thing Majors never do is give up. The final score for Hayfield vs. Mount Vernon was 41-63, but the boys never hung their heads down. They knew Hayfield was going to bring heat.

At the end of the day the Mighty Majors are still 5-1, and they have a huge chance to become 6-1. Keep pounding, Go Majors!
