Although the presidential election of 2016 was one of the most controversial elections the United States has seen in years, it is not a surprise to the American people that Trump does not shy away from making controversial decisions in regards to leading this country the way he feels is right.

The Commander-in-Chief took to Twitter, a social media site used to share thoughts and feelings of anyone having an account through “tweeting,” and announced on July 26th, 2017 that:

“After consultation with my generals and military experts, please be advised the United States Government will not accept or allow transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military. Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail. Thank you.”

Mixed emotions were widespread across the country and non-supporters of President Trump used his policy change as an opportunity to attack his personal character and moral fortitude. They claimed Trump lied during his campaign when he personally told the LGBTQ community that he would fight for their rights.

Often times, Trump and his administration are attacked for policy changes, executive orders, and even just their opinions about the way the country should be run. They never apologize or pay attention to it, and this time around with the infamous “tweet,” was the perfect example of that.

The Trump Administration stands by this new policy and has not regretted or taken back anything about this change since its announcement, even with retired transgender Navy SEAL, Kristen Beck, personally calling out Trump saying, “Let’s meet face to face and you tell me if I’m worthy.”

Knowing that the country is divided, these outbursts of protest and riots by some unsatisfied Americans, and controversial decisions by our President and his administration bring a wave of discontent and patriotism from citizens. Finding a balance between the two is the struggle this country has to find a solution to.
