Powder puff games are annual traditions of high school and happen every year during homecoming week. A powder puff game consists of seven players on a field at a time with girls playing football and guys taking up the cheer squad from the sidelines.

At the powder puff game this year, the freshman and junior class played on the field first, while the sophomores and seniors waited patiently to retrieve their win.

Each class created and brought their own spirit to the table with bright shirts describing each grade level and each individual player, but most importantly their homecoming theme: seniors as zombies, juniors as vampires, sophomores as werewolves, and freshmen as clowns.

The senior class had an amazing leader named Ms. Mahoney. She encouraged her players to win big and maintain teamwork.

“I liked how they were working together and the students wanted to keep playing at practices” Mahoney said.

When the freshman and juniors played they were alert and energetic; the game could have lasted for hours, but it all came down to the juniors taking their first win. The freshman players gave it their all. Next up were the sophomores and seniors.

The seniors were not wasting any time putting points on the board. After scoring point after point, they were a step closer to victory. The juniors tried to push and shove their way to a successful win, but it wasn’t enough because the seniors came out with a harder bang than ever before.

Isabella Horton, a fellow powder puff player for the senior class stated, “

The experience was really nice and it was fun to win, and the team worked really well together”

The game was also entertaining for the crowd to enjoy, as well. Some fans were anticipating the senior powder puff players to win for the whole senior class. They were all cheering at the top of their lungs and holding up posters representing their favorite players.

During half time there was a performance from male cheerleaders for the senior class. The choreography was practiced, but to some their “moves” didn’t seem to be quite on point.

Senior Trisha Fonseca explained, “They were unorganized and they didn’t know the dance moves, but overall the point was to have fun and we did.”

A possible challenge for next year, senior Kelsey Norton stated, “I didn’t like how we were the only ones that had cheerleaders. Other grades should step their game up!”

Overall, the powder puff game was a success for all grade levels. The players for the senior class performed excellent plays and earned their way to victory. Everyone was full of team spirit and powder puff games will be a ongoing tradition for high school spirit weeks thanks to the dedication and determination of the students and teachers.
