“Everyone who attended or participated in the Pyramid Art Show are winners!””

— Mrs. Schafer

Students have been working all year for an event that has excited art lovers for many years; artists of all ages donned their best pieces and winning smiles for the big showcase of work and an evening of fun. This year, Mount Vernon held the annual Pyramid Art Show on March 15th throughout the school day and again that evening from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm. The art show included, other than art pieces, a live band, refreshments and artists from grades K-12.

All art students were encouraged to submit their best pieces, and as long as there was room, each one was exhibited in the show. Artists did not have to meet any specific criteria, and there was an array of different types of art, from digital media to painting. Specific exhibits were also showcased for IB student artwork. The Pyramid show had over 100 students participating, ranging from young artists in kindergarten all the way to high school seniors. Elementary and Middle school artists are included in the yearly event from the schools that feed into Mount Vernon.

Students have been working all school year on their pieces for the show, and the positive reaction to the event showed!

Ms. Schafer, an art teacher at MVHS said,“The guests were all curious and happy about all the different media.”

The different media included digital media, animation, traditional film photography, ceramics and painting.  Rahma Quram, a student in the art show, created a tessellation, which is an arrangement of shapes closely fitted together to create an illusion.

For some students, their art skills were put to the test. A lot of the art pieces submitted in the show were skills that the student recently learned. There were students who took up more than one class period to finish the art piece as well. Rahma Quram, however, only needed one. She just decided that she enjoyed her creative tessellation design so much she decided to enter it into the show.

Alongside the art being exhibited,  guests also enjoyed a live student band and refreshments during the show. The art show had an amazing turn out and many people were amazed by how well it went.

“It was like a big party,” said Ms. Schafer.

“I was really surprised with how it all turned out.” said Rahma Quram.

There was not a competitive piece to this show, but Ms. Schafer enthusiastically explained, “Everyone who attended or participated in the Pyramid Art Show are winners!”
